Alex Bean is a Boston-based composer, organist, and sound artist and is currently pursuing his MFA in Composition at Brandeis University, where he is presently studying with Eric Chasalow. His work emphasizes an experimental compositional praxis based on the recursive development and refinement of ideas through the compositional process. Bean is particularly interested in using acoustics as compositional material. He has collaborated with groups including eighth blackbird, Roomful of Teeth, Loadbang, Ludovico Ensemble, and the American Creators’ Chorus. His installations have been featured in the Leonard Bernstein Festival of the Arts. In addition to his work as a composer, Bean is also parish organist at the Church of St. John the Evangelist in Cambridge, MA, and is a student in the Boston Organ Studio under Christian Lane.
